Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline project commenced

On June 3, construction of the Myanmar-China Oil and Gas pipeline project officially started.

Before the commencement ceremony, at the witness of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Myanmar Prime Minister Thein Sein, CNPC President Jiang Jiemin and MOGE U Myint Hta signed a shareholder agreement on Southeast Asia Oil Pipeline Co., rights and obligations agreement on Southeast Asia Gas Pipeline Co. and a shareholder agreement on Southeast Asia Gas Pipeline Co.. The agreements defined CNPC Southeast Asia Co., Ltd. as the controlling party of the joint venture to be in charge of the design, construction, operation, expansion and maintenance of the Myanmar oil and gas pipeline.

The gas pipeline has a 793km-long section and the crude pipeline has a 771 km-long section in Myanmar. A crude oil terminal will also be built on the west coast of Myanmar's Kyaukryu. Both the pipelines start from Myanmar's Kyaukryu and end at Kunming, capital city of Yunnan Province.

CNPC President Jiang Jiemin and Vice President Liao Yongyuan attended the commencement ceremony, and also attended relevant activities during Wen Jiabao's visit in Myanmar. During his staying in Myanmar, Jiang Jiemin had an interview with the Energy Minister of Myanmar. The two sides compared notes on related issues of the Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline.
