China and Kazakhstan sign agreement on the construction of the phase-Ⅱgas pipeline

On June 12, witnessed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, CNPC President Jiang Jiemin and KazMunayGas President Kairgeldy Kabyldin signed an agreement in principle on design, financing, construction and operation of of the phase-ⅡKazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline.

According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly build the phase-ⅡKazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline in order to meet gas demand in south Kazakhstan and seek a possibility of exporting Caspian gas to China through the pipeline.

The Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline is an important part of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline. On August 2007, China and Kazakhstan signed an inter-government agreement on the construction of the Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline. Connected with the Second West-East Gas Pipeline, the phase-Ⅰproject has a total length of 1,300 kilometers, and its Line A became operational in December 2009. The phase-Ⅱproject will have a total length of 1,400 kilometers. The Chinese and Kazakh governments signed an agreement to confirm the implementation of the phase-ⅡKazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline in October 2009.
