Dushanzi Petrochemical's 10Mt/a refining and 1Mt/a ethylene project becomes operational

On September 21, an integrated 10Mt/a refining and 1Mt/a ethylene project at Dushanzi Petrochemical was put into operation, which is the largest one of its kind in China.

As an important part of Sino-Kazakhstan energy cooperation strategy, Dushanzi Petrochemical's project is composed of 10 sets of oil refining facilities and 11 sets of petrochemical facilities, including a 10Mt/a distillation unit, a 2Mt/a hydrocracking unit, a 1Mt/a ethylene plant, a 900kt/a polyethylene plant and a 550 kt/a polypropylene plant, which will mainly process high sulfur oil imported from Kazakhstan.

The foundation was laid in August 2005 for the project. And the installation of the facilities commenced in June 2006. On August 28, 2009, the10Mt/a refining facilities was successfully put into trial operation, and then the 1Mt/a ethylene facilities on September 21. The Dushanzi Petrochemical will thus have a capacity to produce 6.17 million tons of refined products and 2.95 million tons of chemical products per annum.
