On the eve of the whole nation celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China, at 9:00 am, September 22, a grand meeting was held in Daqing city in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the oilfield. Xi Jinping, standing member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Chinese Vice President, attended the celebration meeting. Member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and Vice-Premier of the State Council Zhang Dejiang read out the congratulatory message from the State Council at the meeting. More than 2,800 delegates attended the meeting. Xi Jinping said the development of Daqing oilfield changed the layout of China's petroleum industry, rid China of the label of "oil-poor country" and realized self-sufficiency in oil supply. Daqing oilfield had provided strong support for the operation of China's industrial system and national economic system when the nation was in tough period. Based on the actual situation, Daqing oilfield formed management pattern and experience with its own characteristics. It created an independent and vibrant oil industry development road with Chinese characteristics and verified the nonmarine origin theory put forward by Chinese scientists. The oilfield innovated and developed independently the world-leading exploration and development technology. It fostered "Daqing Spirit" and "Iron Man Spirit", that is "Dynamic, Loyal, Honest, Committed". The spirit made a team that dared to face difficulties and excellent workforce that is courageous. It is the strong motive force that unified one million of oilmen, and embodies sublime quality and spiritual outlook of China's working class. "Daqing Spirit" and "Iron Man Spirit" has become an important part of the great spirit of the Chinese nation. It will always be the precious spiritual treasure that inspires the Chinese people to go forward bravely.
